Quote #1: Page: 181
"After my all night shifts at various jobs it's hard to stay awake."

This prooves that the main character has a really hard life and he is struggling a lot because he works all day and he has various jobs, and it seems like starting a life in America is the same as making a life anywhere else it's hard but, in America their are lots more oppertunies here so you will have more of a chance to get a job in America.

I think that the main character is suing a good job in stablelising his life and trying to make anough money to sustane his life. I think that he should ask for help so he can have a better job with a lot better pay so he does not have to struggle the rest of his life.

Question #1: Do you think that he will find a job that is really good pay and that will make his life a lot more easier?

Quote #2: Page: 182
"Andy Peters sits next to me In introduction to philosophyand tells me about a job in a bank, Manufacturers trust company down on Broud Street."

This showed that now things are changing for the main character because now he is about to get a pretty good job and he does not have to as much now.

I am glad that things are changing for the main character because when he finally made it to America he had a pretty hard life because he had to find jobs and work several jobs but now he has a opertunity to have a better life.

Question #2: Do you think that for now on good things are going to happen to him?

Quote: Page: 103
"Go back to the boys like a GI from the films and give them change from you pocket"

This quote is based on the culture of America because he related himself to a character in the movies.

I thought it was funny how he said go back to the boys like a GI he was saying act like that soldier in the movie and give those kids change. I thought that now he is making good choices and he has changed a lot from the beginning of the book.

Question: Why do you think he aid go back to the boys like a GI from the films?

Quote: Page:102
"I sit on the bed in my American army uniform and my new corporals stripes"

THis quote shows the hard ships that the main character has to go threw to make a new life. He has to join the army.

I think that joining the army is a little to extreme because you can die from that. But its good that he wants to protect the country and he is gaining ranks so thats good.

Question: Do you think the main character will have a better life towards the end and live in America or move back to his home country?

Quote: Page: 49
If I had money I could buy a hat and go out.
This quote relates to the question that says what hard ships do the character endure as they make a new life. The reason why it relates to that question is because it shows that the main character does not have a lot of money and it is hard to get money for him. I think he is doing a good job right now because he is trying to get money so he could have the good life. I don't really like the priest because he is wired.

Do you think that the main character will get a lot of money towards the end of the book?

Quote: page: 50
New york was the city of my dreams but now I'm here the dreams are gone and its not what i expected at all.
This quote relates to the question how do the character maintain their culture ties to their homeland while living in America. The reason why it relates to that question is because he thought New York city would be the life nothing to worry about but now he knows his wrong. I think he should have face reality that America isn't like in the movies its hard to start a new life any were. So I think he should have thought about that first.

Do you think things are going to get better for him or worse?

Field trip reflection

From Heaven to Home:

The purpose of that field trip was to learn all about the Jewish history. For example I learned that 9,000 Jews fought in the Civil war with the Union and 3,000 Jews fought with the Confederacy.
So the field trip taught us about the achievements that Jewish people had made and the bad times, some bad times were, during world war 2 the Natsis were killing millions of Jewish people.
In the field trip we also learned about what their religion is and why we should know the history of Jewish people.

In the field trip the most interesting fact that i found out was that before world war 2 only a few thousand people lived in Las Vegas but then a Jewish man started making Las Vegas a entertainment city and Las Vegas population was 2,000 but when Las Vegas started to have more entertainment the population exceed one and half million.

Children of Immigrants:
Quote: If we stayed in Bosnia we would have probably been killed. Although one can predict the future, just imagine a seven year old wondering if he would be killed the next day or spared in this world we call home.

I chose this quote because it really spoke out to me and showed me how a lot of kids in other countries that are dangerous feal every day.

Picture:
I choose the Mexican Independence day. The picture sh owes some people wearing Aztec clothes and they are celebrating Mexican Independence day. I chose this Picture because they celebrate Mexican Independence day in another country and they are not in Mexico so that showes me that they will show people who they are and were their from.

Essay:
The essay I read is about a Chinese immigrant and the hard times he when thrue. Also it talks about his father seeing people committing suicide so he wanted to stop seeing that. So he comes to America to start over and have a better life.

Ti's

Quote: Page: 13
"Id try to see Fifth Avenue or Central Park or Greenwich Village where everyone looked like movie stars, powerful tans, gleaming white teeth." The main character said this quote.

This quote relates to the question that says Why have the charates in your book come to America. He whants to come to America because he wantsto have a good life and have beurifull teeth and have a gleaming tan. He also whants to go to America so he can go to New York city to go and see all the people their.

I think the main characters actions to go to New York city was good but I think that he should not go to New York just because he whants to be a beutifull person or think that every one in New York city is like people in the movies. I think he should have gone just to have a better life.

Do you think that the priest is really a priest or maybe he is faking?

Quote: Page: 19
''Its the first time I have ever had lemon meringue pie and im thinking if this is the way they eat all the time im America I wont be a bit hungry and i'll be fine and fat."

This quote relates to the question What was the Journy in America like because he tryies his first lemon menrigue and it was deliciose. Also he thoought that Americans eat like this and he ill be able to live fine in America..

I like how he whent out and tryed out new thing in America. An example I whent to Mexico and I tryed new food out and i found out it was monkey and iguana.

Do you think he will try something in America that he wont like?

Reflection

The definition of an immigrant is a person who comes to a country from another country. My connection to immigration is my grandpa and grandma from my mom side were native in Guadalajara Mexico and they came to America, also my other grandma was from Mexico and she came to America but she was from Tijuana.

I do not have any friends that are immigrants but i do have some relatives who are immigrants. Some relatives that are immigrants are my uncle he is from Lebanon and he came to America, also my other uncles parents are from the Philippine's and they came to America.

I think a lot of immigrants come to America because they can have a better life than before and have a good education. I also think immigrants come to America because it might be safer than it is in their country for example if their is war going on in their country they would want to go somewhere safe. In San Diego i see the effects of immigration are at local markets and by the boarder etc...
